A page from the diary

She sits next to me as I look out of the window watching the scenery rush by. Its gonna be a long drive, I think to myself. Thankfully the roads have been relaid and its not gonna be as bumpy as it was the last time I was there... almost a year back. The others are clicking pictures and chatting among themselves. Some are humming songs. Its a beautiful day and the the clouds just manage to keep out the sun, insulating the earth from its heat. The wind coming in through the windows messes around with her hair. I am still looking out of the window... I like it. I love seeing the countryside breeze by. The green fields, the dogs on the roads, ruminating buffaloes lazing around in the shade of a tree, possibly sharing the shade with a couple of old men smoking beedis. It just cant better, I think to myself.

Suddenly I feel a strong tingling in my ear! I am stirred back to where I am and I jerk my head away. She smiles at me. Her hair flying around somehow magically found its way into my ear and tickled me awake. I cant help but smile back. I turn to look outside again. She moves closer to me and puts her head on my shoulder, to lie down. Instinctively I turn and see her putting her arm through mine and holding onto it. She is going to miss me, I know. I will miss her more... forever maybe. I hold her back and she slips her fingers between mine. She drifts into sleep, not letting go of my hand for a single moment.
